HOKEMA Sansula Basic Melody B-stock
What does B-stock mean?
Our B-stock products are technically and sonically soundly intact. They only have minor external defects that do not affect their functionality in any way. These may include light scratches or minimal signs of wear and tear that occurred during the manufacturing process.
The Sansula – a patented invention from HOKEMA – is a new development of the Kalimba (also called Sansa or Mbira), which originated in southern Africa. Kalimbas are reed instruments that are plucked with the thumbs or fingers. In Africa, they can be found in countless shapes and designs, in which the vibration of the reed is amplified in various ways (e.g., on a resonator, a hollow body such as a calabash gourd, or simply a piece of solid wood). With the Sansula, the vibration of the reed is first "stored" in a wooden block, which then transmits it to a sound membrane. This way, the sound can be heard for much longer than with other methods of sound amplification. Supported by the tuning – octaves are close together – a wonderful, soft, overtone-rich sound is created, which can be easily coaxed from the instrument.
