"Christmas songs from around the world" is a collection of songs that invites the kalimba player to embark on a musical journey around the world without losing sight of its European origins.
Around the world, Christmas marks the high point of Christian life with festivities that last several days. Christmas customs are as varied as the living and weather conditions of the Christians celebrating. The diversity of cultures gives rise to very different Christmas carols. The Christmas carol in Europe has a festive and dignified character. African Christmas carols often sound like an invitation to dance; North American Christmas carols, which for cultural reasons came about much later than most European ones, often have hit characteristics. In many Latin American Christmas carols, the focus is on festive togetherness; in the gospel songs of African-American cultures, the fun of singing and dancing is in many places more obvious than the Christmas message.
