HOKEMA - Sansula Deluxe B-stock
What does B-stock mean?
Our B-stock products are technically and sonically soundly intact. They only have minor external defects that do not affect their functionality in any way. These may include light scratches or minimal signs of wear and tear that occurred during the manufacturing process.
The Sansula – a patented invention from HOKEMA – is a new development of the Kalimba (also called Sansa or Mbira), which originated in southern Africa. Kalimbas are reed instruments that are plucked with the thumbs or fingers. In Africa, they can be found in countless shapes and designs, in which the vibration of the reed is amplified in various ways (e.g., on a resonator, a hollow body such as a calabash gourd, or simply a piece of solid wood). With the Sansula, the vibration of the reed is first "stored" in a wooden block, which then transmits it to a sound membrane. This way, the sound can be heard for much longer than with other methods of sound amplification. Supported by the tuning – octaves are close together – a wonderful, soft, overtone-rich sound is created, which can be easily coaxed from the instrument.
The Sansula Deluxe is a further development of our basic Sansula model. At the request of many customers, we have equipped it with a sturdy natural calfskin membrane and a tensioning device. These modifications make the instrument even more versatile. As a product with components made from natural materials, each Deluxe model we deliver is unique, characterized by an even fuller and warmer sound, as well as its robustness. While the basic Sansula model is too delicate for use by small children, the Sansula Deluxe can now also be used in kindergartens and music schools without fear of easy damage. Of course, the Sansula Deluxe also requires careful handling, as is customary and appropriate for musical instruments.
